LTO Tape Drives

posted by babadirect in:

When LTO tape drives were first developed there were two formats available: Accelis for high speed and Ultrium for high capacity. As the speed of the Ultrium format grew, the demand for Accelis dropped and that format has been discontinued. In today's marketplace, LTO and Ultrium have become interchangeable. The Baba Direct is you primary provider of AIT Tape, Sony LTO Ultrium, Green Products, 4MM Tapes, 8MM Tapes, DLT Tapes, DVD/CDR, Enterprise Tapes, LTO Tapes, Optical Cartridges, QIC Tapes, SDLT Tapes, SLR / MLR Tapes, Tape Library, Tape Storage Cases, VXA Tapes, Zip Drives, 10000 Tapes, Flash Drive, Storage Devices and Hard Drive. We have the Linear Tape Open format that supports portability, superior performance, data security and large capacity to hold the data. The LTO technology, which will backup from 200 Gbytes to 800 Gbytes of data, will come in two implementations: the Ultrium single reel line and the Accelis dual reel line, said Robert Hill, Information Storage Group sales and marketing manager for Hewlett Packard. The LTO ultrium tape cartridge saves cost and energy in data archiving for longer periods of time. The LTO-5 tape format will have more transfer speed and physical storage capacity than that of the LTO generation 4. The LTO5 will also have the encryption mechanism of hardware based and the WORM functionality to address the compliance requirements and data security.

The Ultrium will offer a single reel 200 Gbyte capacity system at 20 to 40 Mbps (Megabytes per second) transfer rate. The Accelis line will be a dual reel offering with 50 Gbyte capacity in under 10 second data retrieval rates. Hill spoke about the technology, which is being developed in conjunction with IBM Corp. and Seagate Technology Inc., at a press briefing here.

That capability doesn't come cheap. The price of an LTO tapes,  drive is out of reach of a home user or small business, and the cost of a tape library can run well into the five-figure range, but LTO tapes is overkill for those markets anyhow. This technology is aimed squarely at the highest capacity backup needs, the large enterprise LAN. For that target customer, LTO is probably the best choice of competing technologies and now at u can find at http://www.babadirect.com and http://www.datamediaexperts.com in the affordable price.

Blu-ray Disc

posted by babadirect in:

Blu-ray Disc is also known as Blu-ray or BD. the Optical disc storage medium. Its main uses are high-definition video and data storage. The disc has the same physical dimensions as standard DVDs and CDs. The bluray disk technology was introduced in the market in 2006. This new and advanced format of Blu-ray BD disk can store more data and is capable to playback high definition HD audio, photos, videos along with digital contents of other types. A standard Digital Versatile Disc DVD has the capacity to record data approximately up to 4.7GB. This 4.7GB is the capacity of a single sided DVD. The bluray technology is considered as the next generation of DVD.

During the format war over high-definition optical discs, Blu-ray Disc competed with the HD DVD format. On February 19, 2008, Toshiba—the main company supporting HD DVD—announced that it would no longer develop, manufacture, or market HD DVD players and recorders, leading almost all other HD DVD companies to follow suit, effectively ending the format war.

Our company (www.babadirect.com) also has SONY blu ray disk,TDK blu-ray blank,  blu-ray blank dvd.. For more details and online order of hp hard drive, AIT Tapes, LTO Tapes, SDLT Tapes, DLT Tapes and more Tape backup. please visit www.datamediaexperts.com and www.babadirect.com .

The range of capacities, which had to match equipment and the AIT Tapes  systems range from 120GB to 320GB hard disk array capacities. AIT-2, with 50GB native per tape, fit the need well, plus I can use smaller tapes, 25GB or 35GB, One of the most compelling features of the AIT Tapes  format is that many generations are both backwards and forwards compatible. This allows multiple generations of tape drives to both read and write to multiple generations of tape media.

High-end and midrange tape products

posted by babadirect in:

The tapes Tape is the quintessential data backup medium. Most tape technology is well established and inexpensive but it is also too slow to serve as a primary storage platform. The appeal of "cheap, plentiful and slow" storage has made tape a traditional complement to disc storage systems and the tapes for the backup Tape  storage.

New high-end and midrange tape products are coming, with a focus on security and reliability at the most cheapest price as well. Baba Direct, with financial customers as one target audience, is now shipping WORM (write-once, read-many) technology in AIT devices. Meanwhile, Imation Corp. has improved its capacity and signal-to-noise ratio in LTO units.
The developments follow recent overall format upgrades of both Advanced Intelligent

We have the best brands of LTO Tapes , AIT Tapes , SDLT Tapes , DLT Tapes , SLR / MLR Tapes  VXA Tapes  Travan Tapes , QIC Tapes , Zip Drives Tape Storage Cases  at the cheapest rates . we have the fastest delivery system and mostly free.

Baba Direct put the WORM firmware in its AIT-3 media and drives, both from Sony Electronics Inc., in San Francisco, California. It's also in the library software. "Probably we will go back and certify AIT-2 as well, within the next three to four months," said Eddi Hassan, a Baba Direct product manager, in Berkeley, California. Shipping now, the new tapes cost $115, versus $100 for the non-WORM models, he said.
Baba Direct doesn't provide any tools for users to migrate data from the old tapes to the new, but does offer professional services for such tasks, he said.
For its part, Imation Corp.'s second-generation LTO media will ship next month, said Eddy, director of Baba Direct. The new tapes hold 200GB of data transferred at up to 40GBps, with double of those specifications if the data is compressed. The tapes have a slightly improved signal-to-noise ratio of 26:1, measured in decibels, versus 25:1 in the first-generation units, Eddy said. They also have 512Kb per inch, versus 384Kbpi in the older version, he said.
Pricing for the new tapes, called Black Watch Ultrium, has not yet been set but is expected to be slightly higher than the former version, which currently cost about $70 each, Eddy said.

SDLT tapes

posted by babadirect in:

Computer data is getting bigger and bigger important then aver before. All of this have made the HDD, tapes and DVD most important.

The SDLT tapes are one of the most well distinguishing backup tapes that are used at the time. SDLT is a variant of the DLT Tape technology developed by Digital Equipment Corporation in 1984 with a higher capacity. There are following types of SDLT tapes SDLT, SDLT-1, SDLT-2, SDLT BARCODE LABELS, Baba Certified SDLT Media

DLT Tape, SDLT tapes and SDLT Drive are very flexible they can be RepairsIf DLT drive needs repair, extensive workshop and qualified technicians offer a comprehensive repair service on a wide range of Tape, DAT tapers, DLT tapes, Optical and CD drives.

The SDLT tapes adds an optical servo system that reads servo patterns on the back of the tape, in order to keep the data tracks on the front of the tape correctly aligned with the read/write heads. This is important for newer tape media, which have very thin dense data tracks. Media are guaranteed for 30 years of data retention under specified environmental conditions; however, they are easily damaged by mishandling. SDLT tapes typically has a minimum capacity of 110 GB going up to a maximum of 800 GB with the recently developed DLT-IV Tapes and DLT VS-1 Tapes. DLT tape drives deliver high-performance and supreme reliability allowing businesses to do more with less. The Super DLT or SDLT tape drives are well suited for storing, archiving and backing up large volumes of data in midrange UNIX and Windows NT environments.

DLT Tape, SDLT tapes users gets increasingly sensitive to data security in the wake of high profile data loss incidents, and encryption techniques have appeared to help ensure security. Thus, the use of encryption has a profound effect on corporate liability and reporting obligations. We can find this increasingly sensitive in LTO Tapes, AIT Tapes, 4MM Tapes 8MM Tapes and Enterprise Tapes as well.

About the Linear Tape-Open

posted by babadirect in:
The LTO format is a powerful, scalable, adaptable open tape format developed and continuously enhanced by technology providers HP, IBM Corporation and Quantum Corporation (and their predecessors) to help address the growing demands of data protection in the midrange to enterprise-class server environments. LTO technology was designed to come in two form factors, Ultrium and Accelis.

Accelis – 8MM Tapes, dual reel cartridge, biased toward fast access time, very similar to Sony's AIT tapes product.

Ultrium – 1/2" tape, single reel cartridge, biased toward high capacity, very similar to Quantum's DLT product and IBM's 3590 Magstar product.

As of 2006, LTO Ultrium is very popular and there are no commercially available LTO Accelis drives or media. In common usage, LTO generally refers only to the Ultrium form factor. We can find many companes in the LTO tapes production like

Sony LTO tapes, Maxell lto, Hp lto tapes, lto ultrium IV, Maxell lto tape, Sony LTO-3 tapes , Sony LTO-2 tapes.

This ultra-high capacity generation of tape storage products is designed to deliver outstanding performance, capacity and reliability combining the advantages of linear multi-channel, bi-directional formats with enhancements in servo technology, data compression, track layout, and error correction.

LTO media now available   AIT-1 Tapes,  AIT-2 Turbo Tapes,  AIT-3 Tapes,   AIT-4 Tapes,   AIT-5 Tapes,  AIT-E Turbo Tapes,  AIT Barcode Labels,  AIT-2 Tapes,  Baba Certified AIT Media

Future of backup tapes

posted by babadirect in:
We have been taking about the backup tapes(4MM Tapes, 8MM Tapes, AIT Tapes, LTO Tapes )but we did not see the one aspect of the tapes and that is what well be the Future of backup tapes . Does tape have a future as a backup technology? Well they be used as a backup devices? When they well become obsolete?  In 2003 reader pageviews for disk to disk backup on STORAGEsearch overtook pageviews for tape backup for the first time. We're now at a watershed where users no longer have to choose tape just because their forebears did.

Sony Electronics announced a new series of Parasite tape library systems based on SAIT drive technology with a native capacity of up to 1.2 pet bytes. It seemed that the boundary to the backup media frontier had been redrawn and tape would still claim the high ground. SAIT was previewed article by Jean-Jacques Male Val Editor of Storage Newsletter. This article, below, gives you the current state of thinking from Sony, which seems to be the only company offering a credible long term market life for tape media.

With the accelerated use of content-rich systems, the need to store, manage and protect the important data produced is more important than ever. Storage systems will race to increase capacities and performance, and tape storage will play an important role. Already today, many systems, such as video and digital imaging systems, use tape for primary storage. Today's companies use tape in archival and near-line storage applications, and new tape array products are shrinking required backup windows. Tape systems are also often integrated with disk storage in network attached storage and storage area network configurations. Furthermore, tape is still the primary backup medium and is integral to most disaster recovery applications. High-capacity, high-performance requirements are driving the way companies look at data production and data protection. Leading industry analyst firms such as Gartner Dataquest have focused on the requirements for storage in these kinds of environments when they state, "As disk capacities continue to grow with the explosion of digital content and mission-critical data warehouses, the tape storage segment has a bigger opportunity to close the gap between disk and tape roadmaps. For a tape product to be successful, capacity, performance and automation support are key.
A high-capacity, high-performance tape system today has significant advantages in backup, restoration and archival of critical corporate data, saving time and money. But can tape continue to play a cost-effective role in these demanding storage applications in the future? Tapes like 10000 Tapes, QIC Tapes, Travan Tapes, Cleaning Cartridges, VXA Tapes, Tape Library, Optical Cartridges, SLR / MLR Tapes and many more

The ocean of Storage Devices and storage Medias

Let me guide you in this infinite ocean of Storage Devices and storage medias. As I seed in my privies article.

No farther delays. I have tested your patients to much so now first of all we categorize the types of the Storage Devices and storage Medias. The type of backup medium used is dependent of the disk capacity of the backup medium. It is also dependent on the size and nature of the data to be backed up. There is a less chance of a routine backup on a hard disk if the data is large requiring tapes and disk swaps. Most users prefer to back up their data in a single round on one device. The different types of backup media are as following.

Optical Backup Media

Tape as Backup Media

Removable Drives

Password Protection

Optical Backup Media

The Optical Backup Media include DVD and CD-R has a large storage capacity of about 650-MB and the DVD has the capacity of 4 to 7 GB. CD-RW is a good flexible, reusable, general-purpose backup medium. The primary drawback is that CD-RW disks are proprietary inn nature. There is a lot of verity as u can see in the following links.

Tape as Backup Media

The Backups are large, sequential writes ideally suited tape drives, and tape is making a comeback as a backup device. As hard drives keep growing tape is the only medium of a similar capacity that is growing to match them. For the drives, and per-gigabyte basis for the media, it is inexpensive. It is reasonably reliable, simple to set up, and has a lot of support for drives and software. there are many types of tapes as u can see in the following links

LTO Tapes, ATI Tapes, 4MM Tapes, 8MM Tapes, SDLT Tapes, DLT Tapes, SLR / MLR Tapes, VXA Tapes, Cleaning Cartridges, Travan Tapes, QIC Tapes, 10000 Tapes, Enterprise Tapes

Removable Drives

The Removable Hard Drive has a large Storage Devices capacity to be suitable for backups. These drives have a reasonable performance ranging twice the speed of a CD/DVD drive. Hard drives are reliable. They are convenient and portable. These Storage Devices are equipped with random-access capability. However they are expensive requiring high maintenance we can see my kinds of Removable Drives as following.

Zip Drives, Hard Drive, Flash Memory and Readers, Hard Drive Array, HP/Compaq Hard Drives,

Most expensive thing in your PC

What is the most expensive thing in your PC, computer system or laptop?

Processor, Hard Drive

Optical Cartridges, Storage Devices

 Zip Drives, Printers
Flash Drive Monitors

The point is that I can go on and go on as long as I can but the majority of the computer experts well agree that the most  expensive thing in your PC is the data that u have that u have gather in very long time

You may get the new Hard Drive, Storage Devices or Printers as same as the old one maybe superior and cheep as well but were well u find your personal data.let me put it this way how effective would your nonprofit be if your email, word-processing documents, and contact databases were wiped out completely? How many hours would it take to rebuild the lost information from scratch? I think u well have a hart attack just thinking of it but don’t wary the is backup device, Storage Devices and storage medias for your problem

Let me guide you in this was ocean of Storage Devices and storage medias in my next up coming articles.

tapes products 4MM Tapes and 8MM Tapes

Web sit :- http://www.babadirect.com  offer many tapes products but well discus only to of them in this article and well be emphasizing on the benefits of them

4MM Tapes

8MM Tapes

4MM Tapes and 8MM Tapes are not relevantly very new to  LTO Tapes, DLT Tapes, and Enterprise Tapes  but they have there on values.

The 4MM Tapes and 8MM Tapes or 8mm tape as well. The technology use in 4MM Tapes and 8MM Tapes  is reliable way to store computer data. When 8mm tapes were first developed as a form of storage media by Exabyte, this greatly improved the capacity and reliability of 4MM Tapes and 8MM Tapes  backup size in general. Data backup capacity   tape can be up to 40 GB and more like in the following

The Maxell DAT160 Data Cartridge 80/160 GB

The HP DDS-5 DAT72 (36/72GB) Data Tape

Sony Mammoth II (50/160) GB

8mm 170m AME-1 Mammoth 20/40GB

The 8MM Tapes technology was the first form of helical-scan system used commercially for data storage. 8mm tapes were also some of the first commercially available dual-reel backup cartridges tapes. An ideal solution to high-volume data backup needs, the 8mm tape is a dependable form of tape backup using the Exabyte Mammoth tape drive. The 8mm tape uses AME formulations to offer expanded transcription content and low-toned abrasivity.

The 4MM Tapes and 8MM Tapes or 8mm tape are very useful fore medium data seize backup .

LTO stands for Linear Tape-Open

posted by babadirect in:

LTO stands for Linear Tape-Open. it is a magnetic tape data storage technology developed as an open alternative to the proprietary Digital Linear Tape . The technology was developed and initiated by Seagate, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM. The standard form-factor of LTO technology goes by the name "Ultrium".

In the late 1990s, Quantum's DLT and Sony's Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT) were the leading options for high-capacity, high speed tape storage for PC servers and UNIX systems. Those technologies were and still are tightly controlled by their owners. Consequently, their availability was fairly limited. IBM, HP and Seagate sought to counter this by introducing a more open format. Much of the technology is an extension of the work done by IBM at its Tucson lab during the previous 20 year

We can find the following products of the LTO tapes

LTO-1 Tapes  LTO-2 Tapes  LTO-3 Tapes  LTO-4 Tapes  Baba Certified LTO Media  Baba Certified LTO-2  LTO Barcode Labels

The Originally designed to come in 4 lengths of tape: 10, 30, 50, and 100 GB. Tape encoding is RLL 1,7 .First commercially available in September 2000.

The Doubled capacity and transfer speed Switched to PRML encoding First mechanisms approved in February 2003.First media approved in March 2003.

The Doubled capacity and transfer speed again Introduced WORM feature .Doubled number of write elements in head First media approved in November 2004.

He Doubled capacity again to 800 GB. Added 256-bit AES-GCM drive level encryption. Increase data transfer rate by 50% to 120 MB/s. First mechanisms approved in April 2007

The AIT backup tapes are made to store?

posted by babadirect in:

One of the most compelling features of the AIT format is that many generations are both backwards and forwards compatible. This allows multiple generations of tape drives to both read and write to multiple generations of tape media. The AIT backup tapes are made to store data efficiently and in large quantities. The SCSI technology that AIT backup tapes  incorporate help to maximize data transfer to and from the host system at a burst rate of 160 MB/sec. there are following tapes of the ATI tapes

AIT-2

Doubled capacity and transfer speed

WORM technology introduced

Turbo variant is 50% higher capacity, 100% faster

AIT-4

Doubled capacity and transfer speed

New tape formulation, AME-2

Not compatible with previous generations

AIT-5

Announced July 2006, hardware and media expected "in the fall."

Doubled capacity, maintained transfer speed.

AIT tapes are now one of the well know backup media in the world. it is widely use in the most part of the world and the USA is one of them

The AIT backup tapes are made to store data efficiently and in large quantities. The SCSI technology that AIT backup tapes incorporate help to maximize data transfer to and from the host system at a burst rate of 160 MB/sec. Data can be transferred from the AIT data tapes at a data transfer rate of 24 MB/sec and with a capacity of a minimum of 50 GB going up to 1040 GB for AIT-5 Tapes makes AIT tapes a great solution for data backup..

The AIT tapes have the following types

·  AIT-1 Tapes

·  AIT-2 Turbo Tapes

·  AIT-3 Tapes

·  AIT-4 Tapes

·  AIT-5 Tapes

·  AIT-E Turbo Tapes

·  AIT Barcode Labels

The developments follow recent overall format upgrades of both Advanced Intelligent Tape and Linear Tape-Open.Baba Direct put the WORM firmware in its AIT-3 media and drives, both from Sony Electronics Inc., in San Francisco, California. It's also in the library software. "Probably we will go back and certify AIT-2 as well, within the next three to four months," said Eddi Hassan, a Baba Direct productmanager, in Berkeley, California. Shipping now, the new tapes cost $115, versus $100 for the non-WORM models, he said.
Baba Direct doesn't provide any tools for users to migrate data from the old tapes to the new, but does offer professional services for such tasks, he said. For its part, Imation Corp.'s second-generation LTO media will ship next month, said Eddy, director of Baba

Direct. Baba Direct
